🐢 Slow transmission

Large archives, backups or media files take a very long time to transfer.

🔓 No secure exchange

Transferring data through regular clouds may not be secure.

👥 It's difficult to manage access

It is necessary to provide access to clients, employees or partners.

Our solution:

SIDATA creates personal cloud file storage that allows you to:

It works through the standard File Transfer Protocol (FTP), which is used by thousands of companies around the world.

You don't need to understand technology - just upload and transfer files.

Why SIDATA is the best choice:

💰 4 times cheaper than Tucha hosting provider

Frequently asked questions about renting FTP/SFTP/FTPS for business and home

FTP storage is a special file space on a remote server where you can upload, store, and transfer files over the internet. Essentially, it's your personal online storage, accessible from your computer, server, or file sharing program.

Unlike conventional cloud services, FTP storage is primarily designed for transferring large files and automatically exchanging data between systems.

What is FTP storage used for?

Transferring large files
You can send archives, databases, videos and other large files that cannot be sent by email.

File sharing with clients and partners
You can create separate accesses and folders for different users.

Storing backup copies
An FTP server is often used to automatically store backup copies of websites and systems.

Automatic data transfer
Many programs and services can automatically upload or download files from an FTP server.

In simple words

FTP storage is a secure online location for storing and transferring large files, convenient for both personal and business use.

Yes, FTP storage is just for transferring large files and archives. Unlike email or regular cloud services, there's usually no strict limit on the size of a single file—it all depends on your storage capacity.

You can transfer:

  • large archives and projects

  • backups of websites and databases

  • video files and media

  • software builds and updates

FTP server allows Download large files quickly and reliably, and also automatically continue transmission if the connection is interrupted.

The main difference is that FTP is designed for direct and fast file transfer, especially large amounts of data.

Regular cloud services (like Google Drive or Dropbox) are more suitable for collaborative work with documents, while FTP is more often used for technical and work tasks.

Main differences

Transferring large files
FTP allows you to transfer very large files and archives without the limitations often found in cloud services.

Automation
FTP can be connected to websites, servers, and programs to automatically upload and download files.

Convenient for backups
FTP is often used to store backups of websites, databases, and projects.

Direct access to files
Files can be transferred directly between servers, without downloading them to your computer.

In simple words:
Cloud services are convenient for working with documents and exchanging files between people, and FTP is for fast transfer and storage of large data between systems and servers.

The SIDATA FTP/SFTP storage can be mounted in Windows as a separate network drive, such as Z:. Once mounted, files will be accessible through standard Windows Explorer.

For easy connection to FTP, FTPS, or SFTP storage, we recommend using RaiDrive. It allows you to mount remote storage as a regular drive with a selected letter.

For SFTP:

Server: FTP storage address Port: 22 Username: storage login Password: user password

For FTP or FTPS:

Server: FTP repository address FTP/Explicit FTPS port: 21 Implicit FTPS port: usually 990 Username: repository login Password: user password
  1. Download and install the RaiDrive program.
  2. Run the program and click the Add button.
  3. Select the desired connection type: FTP, FTPS or SFTP.
  4. Enter the server address, port, username and password.
  5. Select a drive letter, for example Z:.
  6. Click Connect.

Once connected, the storage will appear in the This PC section as a separate network drive.

Connection type: SFTP Host/Server: server address Port: 22 Username: username Password: password Drive letter: Z:

SFTP operates over a secure SSH connection. This option is recommended over regular, unencrypted FTP.

In the connection program, select one of the options:

Explicit FTPS
Typically, port 21 is used. A regular FTP connection is established first, after which TLS encryption is enabled.
Implicit FTPS
Port 990 is typically used. A secure TLS connection is established immediately.

Windows allows you to add a regular FTP server as a network location, but not as a full-fledged drive with a letter.

  1. Open This computer.
  2. Right-click in an empty area.
  3. Select Add a network location.
  4. Please enter the address in the following format:
ftp://ftp.example.com

Built-in Windows tools don't support SFTP connections and are generally unsuitable for FTPS. This location also doesn't receive a drive letter and may not work correctly with some programs.

Yes. WinSCP supports FTP, FTPS, and SFTP and is suitable for uploading, downloading, and synchronizing files. However, WinSCP does not create a full-fledged network drive letter in Windows Explorer by default.

To connect SFTP as a network drive, you can set:

  • WinFsp
  • SSHFS-Win

After installation, open the network drive connection and specify the address:

\\sshfs\username@server

To connect to the user's root folder, you can use:

\\sshfs.r\username@server

Please check the following parameters:

  • Is the server address specified correctly?;
  • whether the port matches the selected protocol;
  • whether the login and password were entered correctly;
  • whether the connection is blocked by an antivirus or firewall;
  • whether the selected protocol is allowed on the server;
  • Is regular FTP being used instead of SFTP or FTPS?.

Yes. In RaiDrive, NetDrive, and similar programs, you can enable automatic drive mounting after the user logs into Windows. The login and password will be saved in the mounting program.

Yes, but the speed depends on the speed of the Internet connection, the size of the files and the selected connection program.

It's not recommended to directly run databases, virtual machines, or applications that constantly modify large numbers of files from an FTP/SFTP drive. For such tasks, it's best to first copy the data to a local drive.

To connect, use the server address, port, username, and password specified in your service settings. For secure data transfer, we recommend selecting the protocol SFTP or FTPS.
